 Ozzy Osbourne
| The second annual Sunset Strip Music Festival will pay tribute to Ozzy Osbourne this year for the impact he’s made on the legacy of West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. The three-day outdoor festival is scheduled for September 10 to 12, and the lineup is expected to be announced shortly. "We are extremely excited to honor rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, and we are thrilled the City of West Hollywood once again supported the Sunset Strip Music Festival," says the festival’s executive director Todd Steadman. "This year’s street closure will allow us to expand on the success of last year’s inaugural fest and accommodate more fans and festival-goers." Meanwhile, Ozzy is working on a new album that is tentatively set for a November release, and he is contributing guest vocals to guitarist Slash’s upcoming solo LP, according to Rolling Stone.
Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan reportedly had to leave the band's current tour to deal with an undisclosed family matter. "A very terrible, terrible predicament is going on in [Clown's] family," singer Corey Taylor explained to the crowd during the band's Toronto concert on Friday, May 1. Slipknot's North American trek is scheduled to run through a May 16 performance at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, OH.
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng is doing better after the November car accident that left him in a coma. Cheng "was released from ICU over the weekend and is no longer on any sort of life support. His symptoms continue to improve," according to a post on the website OneLoveForChi.com. His family is also still collecting money to help with his medical bills, and fans can make a donation via the website.Eminem takes on Marvel Comics superhero The Punisher in a new two-part comic titled Eminem/Punisher: Kill You. Part one of the story is included with the June issue of XXL magazine (which features Em dressed as the Punisher on the cover), while part two is a digital comic available at Marvel.com.
Kylie Minogue will do a brief six-city North American tour that kicks off in Oakland, CA on September 30 and hits Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto before wrapping in New York City on October 11. "I’ve wanted to tour in America and Canada for years and know that fans have been waiting a long time for this," said Minogue. "I’m thrilled that the opportunity has finally arrived." Tickets will go on sale in each market on the weekend of May 15, however early access to tickets in the U.S. will be available to American Express Cardmembers beginning Thursday, May 7 through Ticketmaster.
Sirius XM’s Grateful Dead Channel (Sirius channel 32 and XM channel 57) welcomed drummer Bill Kreutzmann for an interview from the road. The interview will be rebroadcast on the Grateful Dead Channel on Saturday, May 9 at 4 p.m. EST. Kreutzmann spoke with host Gary Lambert about his side projects as well as The Dead’s future plans. "I would really like to talk about doing new material," he said. "On the next tour, I would really be happier to do a new song." The Grateful Dead Channel will also broadcast The Dead’s show at The Gorge in George, WA live on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. EST. A live performance from Noel Gallagher of Oasis has been released via iTunes. The performance is from a charity benefit event for Teenage Cancer Trust and was recorded on March 25, 2007 in London. The set, titled Dreams We Have As Children, features Gallagher playing Oasis tunes as well as covering The Beatles, The Smiths and more. Interpol frontman Paul Banks will debut a side project under the alter ego Julian Plenti. The album Skyscraper is due out on Matador Records on August 4. The Shins debuted a new lineup when the indie rockers kicked off their spring tour recently. Keyboardist Marty Crandall and drummer Jesse Sandoval have left the group, replaced by Ron Lewis and Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer. Shins main man James Mercer spoke to Pitchfork, saying, "I started to have production ideas that I wanted to do that basically required some other people. It's an aesthetic decision." He added, "I'm on good terms with those guys, I hope to maintain that." Mercer hopes to release a new Shins album in 2010.
