Quick Hits: Buckcherry, Metallica, Chickenfoot, Weezer, Much Music Video Awards, DMB, Judas Priest
May 28, 2009

Buckcherry will support KISS on all dates of the band's upcoming North American tour. The tour begins in September, and KISS is currently recording its first new studio album in 11 years. Meanwhile, in conjunction with joining the tour, Buckcherry has set up a hotline at 213-784-4536 where fans can call, tell the band they want KISS and Buckcherry to play their town, and possibly win tickets to the show. A member of Buckcherry will call one winner in each of the chosen markets to tell them that they've won a pair of tickets. The contest ends June 30. Check out Buckcherry.com for more details.

Metallica

Metallica has confirmed the rumors that they will be filming a live DVD this summer. In a post on Metallica.com, the band wrote, "We thought it would be cool to document a few shows that are unique and sure to be extra memorable for us, and hopefully for you too. First up are the three sold-out shows in Mexico City, Mexico at Foro Sol on June 4, 6, 7 and later this summer, we also plan to have the cameras rolling at the sold-out show in Nimes, France at Arenes de Nimes, the historic Roman amphitheatre where we'll be on July 7."

The release date for the debut album from Chickenfoot (Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith) has been pushed up to Friday, June 5. The band will make its national television debut that same day as part of Conan O’Brien's first week hosting the Tonight Show. Additionally, keep an eye out for two FMQB Productions radio specials - Inside Chickenfoot and Influences: A Chickenfoot Radio Takeover - which will run on FM radio stations as well as stream on their websites from June 5 to 28.

In a new online post from Weezer, the band reveals that they recorded some new material over the winter with producer Jacknife Lee for a new album that should be out later in 2009. A new Weezer single could be released as soon as this summer. Weezer will open some dates this summer for Blink-182, and Rivers Cuomo tells Rolling Stone the band is planning on their own version of the Snuggie as a new merchandise item, dubbed the "Wuggie."

The 2009 MuchMusic Video Award nominees have been announced, with Nickelback among the leaders in their home and native land with five nods. Theory Of A Deadman received three nominations, with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and the Jonas Brothers also among those receiving multiple nominations. The 2009 MMVAs will be handed out on June 21 and will be hosted by the Jonas Brothers, with performances by Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Lil Wayne and the aforementioned Jonases.

Dave Matthews Band will host their own channel on Sirius XM from June 1-8 to celebrate the release of their new album, Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King. "Dave Matthews Band Radio" will play tracks from the band's entire career on the Jam_On channel (Sirius ch. 17 and XM ch. 56). Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King will be released on June 2.

Judas Priest will unleash A Touch of Evil: Live on July 14 via Epic Records. A Touch of Evil: Live features renditions of Priest gems like “Riding on the Wind,” “Beyond the Realms of Death,” “Dissident Aggressor,” “A Touch of Evil,” “Eat Me Alive” and “Painkiller.” The set was recorded during Priest’s 2005 and 2008 world tours.
