Quick Hits: MTV Movie Awards, STP, Green Day, Jennifer Hudson, Sade, Pete Yorn

The 2009 MTV Movie Awards were handed out last night, and the film-centric show featured a few notable musical moments. Eminem performed, but was also the focus of the most talked-about event of the show. Sasha Baron Cohen (as his character Brüno) was lifted over the crowd, wearing angel wings, and dropped into Em's lap with his bare bottom right in the rapper's face. Eminem and his posse stormed off angrily, though the whole scene was likely staged. Also, Miley Cyrus won Best Song From A Movie for "The Climb." And as expected, Twilight was the big winner of the night, with five awards in total.

Scott Weiland says that Stone Temple Pilots have written 18 new songs for their comeback album. Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Weiland says that STP will be working with producer Don Was on their first new record since 2001. "We're working with Don Was. And if he could make records with the [Rolling] Stones and all their shenanigans... then he can handle STP," Weiland said. As previously reported, STP will play a brief summer tour.

Green Day continue to dominate the late night talk shows. The band will play tomorrow (June 2) on the new Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and next week will play four straight nights (June 9-12) on Last Call With Carson Daly.

Jennifer Hudson is reportedly pregnant with her first child, with fiance David Otunga. Though Hudson has not commented on such reports, Hudon's friend Felicia Fields told The Chicago Tribune that a baby shower was thrown over the weekend in the Windy City.

While details are scarce, Billboard.com reports that Sade is working on her first new album since 2000's Lovers Rock and it could be released by the end of 2009. Sources tell Billboard that Sade Adu and her band are recording new material this month, though there is no set release date from her label, Sony Music.

After opening up a portion of Coldplay's North American tour, Pete Yorn will head out on his own this summer in support of his new album, Back And Fourth. The tour begins in San Diego on July 9, crossing the country and returning to California for two nights at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on August 27 and 28. Back And Fourth is due out on June 23.
