Quick Hits: Slipknot, 50 Cent, Mudvayne, Rolling Stones, God Lives Underwater
October 18, 2005

Slipknot

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root is missing the band's Final Volume tour after breaking his wrist in a mountain biking accident the day before the tour's kickoff in Cincinnati on October 14. He'll be in a cast for at least six weeks and it's unknown if he'll be able to join the band on any of the dates, according to MTV.com. Slipknot's trek continues until November 15 in Milwaukee, and the band's double-disc live album, 9.0: Live, is due on November 1.

50 Cent fans who were not at London's Wembley Arena Pavilion on Sunday night can watch the entire concert on both MTV Overdrive and VH1's Vspot. The broadband channels are streaming 50's tour-closing gig for the next 30 days, along with a behind-the-scenes look at his forthcoming film, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Fans can also preview tracks from the movie's soundtrack, which features new music from 50, Mase, Nate Dogg, Mobb Deep and M.O.P. The film hits theaters on November 9.

Mudvayne will headline the upcoming Masters Of Horror Tour with openers Sevendust, 10 Years and Bobaflex. The tour is set to begin on November 18 in Des Moines and many more dates are still being mapped out. Mudvayne also contributed a previously unreleased track, "Small Silhouette," to the Masters Of Horror soundtrack, which is a companion album to Showtime's Masters Of Horror TV anthology. The disc features 30 brand new tracks from artists such as Shadows Fall, Andrew W.K. and Buckethead with Serj Tankian, and the series premieres on Showtime on October 28.

The Rolling Stones will be seen performing as part of the 2005 American Music Awards, which will air on Tuesday, November 22 on ABC. The band will appear live from the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, where they will be performing on their A Bigger Bang world tour. The Stones join an AMA lineup of performers that already includes Mariah Carey and Rob Thomas. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

David Reilly, a founding member of God Lives Underwater, died Sunday of complications from longstanding stomach problems. Reilly was the band's vocalist and chief programmer, and he also played guitar and synthesizer on God Lives Underwater's four albums. Corporate Punishment Records released Reilly's first and only solo album, Inside, in 2004. Label President Thom Hazaert said in a statement, “I am honored and humbled to have had the chance to work with someone like him, an amazing artist and visionary, who in my eyes will always be one of the most talented people to ever walk the Earth. David will remain forever in our hearts and will be sorely missed by everyone at CPR.”
