Quick Hits: Bumbershoot Festival, Fall Out Boy, Van Halen, Woodstock box set, Matisyahu, Pet Shop Boys
June 5, 2009

Black Eyed Peas

The 2009 Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival in Seattle adds The Black Eyed Peas to the bill, along with Metric and Soulsavers featuring Mark Lanegan. The festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, from September 5-7 and also features Sheryl Crow, Modest Mouse, Katy Perry, Jason Mraz and many, many more.

Following in the footsteps of My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy will co-create a new comic book, called Fall Out Toyworks. Published by Image Comics, the book is inspired by the FOB song "Tiffany Blews" and the first issue will arrive on September 2. Wentz told MTV News that "It's more than a comic too. In the end, it will be a graphic novel, clothing, website and possible toys themselves."

In addition to the Beatles Rock Band news coming out of the E3 Expo this week, a trailer for Guitar Hero: Van Halen has also debuted. The game features the current lineup of David Lee Roth, Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen and it is unknown if any other previous members of VH will appear. It is also unknown if any Sammy Hagar-era hits will appear in the game, though 25 VH tunes will be playable, along with tracks from other bands, including Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age and The OffspringGuitar Hero: Van Halen is set for release in the second half of 2009.

A new Woodstock box set is on the way from Rhino on August 18. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the legendary festival, the set compiles live tracks from throughout the weekend, including 38 previously unreleased recordings from The Who, The Grateful Dead and CCR. Woodstock -- 40 Years On: Back To Yasgur's Farm also replicates the actual running order of the festival across its six CDs.

Matisyahu will release his long-awaited new album, Light, on August 25. The Hasidic Reggae/Rap artist recorded the album with a number of collaborators, including Sly & Robbie, producer David Kahne and members of legendary Ska band Fishbone. Matisyahu tells Billboard the album was almost entirely done a year ago but "A new president got hired at Epic Records - Amanda Ghost. She listened to it and wasn't really feeling the single. I went back in, met with a couple of producers, and made two more songs for the record," including the new single "One Day."

The Pet Shop Boys will head out on a North American tour in support of their new album, Yes. The trek starts in Montreal on August 29 and winds up in Las Vegas on September 26.
