Depeche Mode has resumed their Tour Of The Universe, now that singer Dave Gahan has recovered from surgery to remove a low-grade malignant tumor in his bladder. The band returned to the stage in Leipzig, Germany last night. "I'm grateful to the fans for showing their support and thankful to my family, friends and all of the doctors who looked after me so well," Gahan said. "Being back onstage is an incredible feeling and I'm looking forward to each and every show."

Aerosmith has endured a string of bad luck lately, as their new album has been delayed by many factors, including Joe Perry's knee surgery and Steven Tyler's throat and foot surgeries. This time, two days before Aerosmith is set to launch their summer tour with ZZ Top, guitarist Brad Whitford will be the one to go under the knife. Whitford will miss the opening stretch of dates due to the unspecified surgery. His temporary replacement will be Bobby Schneck, who previously played with Weezer, Green Day and Slash. Aerosmith will be performing the classic album Toys In The Attic in its entirety during the tour.

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke will play a rare solo set as part of the Latitude Festival in Suffolk in the U.K. In other Radiohead news, the band has begun selling music digitally via its own w.a.s.t.e. store online. Yorke's solo album The Eraser, guitarist Jonny Greenwood's score to There Will Be Blood and most notably, the bonus second disc from In Rainbows that was online available with the deluxe box set edition, are all for sale.

Not only will Green Day perform this Tuesday through Friday on Last Call With Carson Daly on NBC, but their Friday performance will be as their alter egos, the Foxboro Hot Tubs.

Billy Corgan has posted a new update on the state of the Smashing Pumpkins, saying that he is "still on target for putting out new music in October" and revealed that he believes to have found his "drummer of the future" to replace Jimmy Chamberlin, who recently left the band. Pumpkin fan blog Hipsters United believes to have ID'ed the drummer as 19-year-old Mike Byrne of Oregon band Moses, Smell The Roses.

O.A.R. is launching a new contest where the band will collaborate on writing a new song with their fans via Twitter. Singer Marc Roberge tells Billboard the band members will choose submissions up until July 7, with updates online regularly about the songwriting progress. The track will then be sold online through iTunes in October.

Singer/songwriter Kenny Rankin, who first gained acclaim as one of the guitarists on Bob Dylan's 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home, has died of lung cancer at the age of 69. The musician had been preparing to record an album of new material when he became ill a few weeks ago. "That he was still at the top of his game is one of the saddest parts of his passing for me," said Denny Stilwell, President of Mack Avenue Records, which was Rankin's label. "He performed the new material in our office over the last few months and his voice was still in its finest form - he sounded absolutely amazing. Our hearts and prayers are with his family."
