Chris Brown has lost a bid to delay a preliminary hearing in his assault case, which is scheduled for June 22. His attorney, Mark Geragos, had argued that the hearing should wait for a related California Supreme Court decision which could effect his access to police records that the attorney says are crucial to the hearing. Now that the preliminary hearing will go on as scheduled, Rihanna has been subpoenaed to testify. Her attorney, Donald Etra, told People magazine, "Rihanna was served at my office by L.A. DA investigators. If the preliminary hearing indeed goes forward, she is now legally required to be there, she will be there, and will answer all questions truthfully." Brown is facing felony assault charges for allegedly assaulting Rihanna in February, and he has pleaded not guilty.
Trent Reznor has announced he is giving up on Twitter, essentially after some rotten apples spoiled the online social networking experience for him. The Nine Inch Nails main man explained himself in a lengthy message board posting here. Reznor had been using his Twitter account for different NIN promotions, including most notably a recent fundraiser for a fan in need of a heart transplant. He concludes that, "I have business in the real world to attend to including wrapping up the live version of NIN, DOING some cool new shit and spending as much time as possible with the most amazing woman in the world." NIN is currently on tour with Jane's Addiction on the NIN/JA 2009 Tour and will play Bonnaroo this weekend.
After appearing on the latest season of Celebrity Apprentice, Brian McKnight is ready to unveil a new album. The as-yet-untitled set will be his first since 2006's Ten. McKnight told Billboard that he's "taken some different directions" this time, ranging from "five to six Brian McKnight kind of songs that you'd expect" to one track that has "a reggae feeling that I've never done before." McKnight's album also features duets with Stevie Wonder on a song called "Without You" and Jill Scott on "More Than Just a Thing."
Chevelle will reportedly offer its fifth studio album, Sci-Fi Crimes, on September 8. The first single, "Jars," will impact Rock radio on June 29. Drummer Sam Loeffler recently told The Pulse of Radio, "I think that production-wise it's different in that we used a lot more vintage amplifiers and things like that. I don't know that it's really a heavier record than any of our others. I actually think it's probably the opposite. But it's certainly still driving, melodic, hard rock music." The band will head out on the Stimulate This! tour with Staind, Shinedown and Halestorm starting on July 1 in Peoria, IL.Oasis will re-issue their entire catalog on vinyl later this year through the band's own Big Brother Recordings. A limited edition, one-off repressing of all their albums, including the B-sides collection The Masterplan, will be available with new liner notes, starting July 13. Brendan Benson will release My Old, Familiar Friend, his first solo record since 2005, on August 18 on ATO Records. Benson has spent the last few years as a member of The Raconteurs, co-fronting the band alongside Jack White. The Toadies continue to tour in support of their album, No Deliverance, which is about to be released in the U.K. The Texas rockers will tour the U.K. in the second half of June, beginning in Manchester on June 18 and will return to the States for summer touring starting July 10 in Oklahoma City.
