June 17, 2009

Black Eyed Peas | After many ubiquitous hit songs, the Black Eyed Peas finally have their first #1 album. The E.N.D. debuted at #1 this week by selling 304,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, marking the hip-pop act's best sales week ever. Furthermore, the two singles from the album are the top two best-selling singles in the country. "I Gotta Feeling" sold more than 249,000 for the #1 spot, while "Boom Boom Pow" shifted another 200,000 and is at #2.
In addition to BEP domination, there were three other debuts in the Top 10 this week. Latin quartet Aventura entered the chart at #5 with Last, selling 47,500 and Rapper Mos Def started at #9 with Ecstatic, moving 39,000 units for his second Top 10 set. Former Pretty Ricky member Pleasure P unleashed his solo debut, The Introduction of Marcus Cooper, and bowed at #10 with just under 38,800 sold. Elsewhere, Sonic Youth bowed at #18 with The Eternal by selling just over 19,000, and Teena Marie started at #20 with Congo Square, moving 18,200.
Last week's #1 album, Dave Matthews Band's Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, slipped to #2 this week and sold another 128,000 copies. Eminem's Relapse moved into the #3 slot by shifting another 87,000, giving the album Platinum sales status in just one month. Chickenfoot saw an uptick in sales, posting a 53 percent gain and selling another 79,000 copies for the #4 spot. The album debuted last week with 52,000 sold with just three days of sales, as it was released early on Friday, June 5. Lady GaGa's The Fame sits at #6 with 47,000, the Hannah Montana movie soundtrack is at #7 with 46,000, and Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown hangs on at #8 with 41,000.
