New Horizons: Creating a Cooperative New Media Future
Moderator: Brian Glicklich of SoundMind

Everyone is talking about all the new ways people are connecting today and how technology continues to expand the horizons for communication and commerce. But perhaps the radio and record industries are not forming strategic alliances often enough. This panel explores ways to expand our capabilities and how to share them with each other in the right ways. Otherwise, we remain on opposite sides of the fence. If radio wins and music is losing, there is something structurally wrong, and vice versa. We have to win together and find new ways to make that happen.

The Innovator's Dilemma
Moderator: Paul Marszalek of Media Mechanics
The Innovator's Dilemma suggests that as a business matures, it tends to concentrate on its best (most profitable) customers. Unfortunately, this strategy invites new competitors that get their start by serving the least profitable customers. Over time, those new competitors increasingly gain strength to challenge and often destroy the established companies.

The Innovator's Dilemma applies directly to today's media. On one front, disruptive technologies are eroding audiences. And now on a second front, traditional advertising and revenue models are crumbling. How can radio and other media survive these disruptive changes? Thankfully, others have been here before us. In this session, we'll review how new technologies and products attacked the titans of the auto, computer and other businesses. And we'll take away some best practices for competing in the coming years.
