The Killers | The Killers are planning to record an album of cover songs before the end of the year. "It's something that we've always talked about doing and we're still talking about," singer Brandon Flowers told NME. "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself! I've gone through everything from Neil Diamond to The Cars." Drummer Ronnie Vanucci listed Genesis, Tom Waits, Cyndi Lauper and Iggy Pop as his preferred choices for the album. The Killers are working on the covers set while on their current tour.
Paul McCartney has added more U.S. shows to his summer itinerary in Boston, Washington, DC and Atlanta. Macca and his band will play Boston's historic Fenway Park on August 5 and 6, and the August 15 show in Atlanta is a benefit concert to raise money for the upkeep of the city's Piedmont Park, which will host the concert. Additionally, McCartney has booked an August 1 gig at Washington, DC's FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins. His website says to "Look out for more news on additional dates very, very, soon."
Phish has titled their 10-song comeback album Joy. It was recorded with producer Steve Lillywhite and all the basic tracks were recorded live in the studio. Joy "feels more like a live record than a lot of our live records," guitarist Trey Anastasio told Rolling Stone. Many of the new songs have already been unveiled during Phish’s reunion trek. Fans have already heard the Lynyrd Skynyrd-influenced "Kill Devil Falls," "Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan" and the 13-minute epic "Time Turns Elastic," which Phish released as a digital download in May.
The new record from Skillet, Awake, will arrive in stores on August 25. The album was produced by Howard Benson (Three Days Grace, Daughtry, Flyleaf) and the first single will be "Monster." Skillet will herald the album with an extensive tour schedule, kicking off with a headlining tour starting in Fort Wayne, IN on September 24.
