Michael Jackson | Details for Michael Jackson's funeral have finally been settled upon, and it will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. AEG Live, which owns the arena and the adjacent Nokia Theatre, will use both facilities and the surrounding plaza to accommodate the crowd, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, nearly one week after his passing, radio airplay of Jackson’s music remains strong. While it has tapered off a bit, it is still more than four times what it was prior to his death. The most played Jackson song remains "Billie Jean," which has received more than 6,000 spins since last Thursday, according to Mediabase.
Rumors are flying that Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones are recording together as a top-secret supergroup. Grohl first suggested the project in an interview with Mojo magazine in 2005. Homme's wife Brody Dalle of Spinnerette confirmed the trio are working together in an interview with Antiquiet, but wouldn't say any more than "I'm not at liberty to talk about it… but I think [the project] is pretty f---ing amazing. Just beats and sounds like you’ve never heard before." In other Grohl news, Rolling Stone reports the Foo Fighters will play a short set as part of the Fourth of July party on the South Lawn of the White House this Saturday.
Despite reports yesterday that Mariah Carey is taking a shot at Eminem in her new video for "Obsessed," her husband Nick Cannon says that it's not true. Carey does dress in drag in the video and looks conspicuously like Eminem, but Cannon says she would not waste her time beefing with the rapper. "People keep saying ['Obsessed'] was directed at certain people," Cannon told MTV News. "To be completely honest, she did the record 'cause she's a huge fan of this movie Mean Girls, and there's a line in the movie where one of the girls is like, 'Why are you so obsessed with me?' She says that at the beginning of the song, and that's where the concept came from. But you know, art imitates life." Carey's new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, is due out on August 25.
Pearl Jam has been announced as the headliner for the first night of the Virgin Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on August 8. It is the band's first gig of 2009. In other Pearl Jam news, "Brother" and live versions of "Alive" and "State Of Love And Trust" have been released as downloadable content for the Wii version of Rock Band. And the band's new single, "The Fixer," will be arriving at radio on July 20.
Slipknot has racked up six nominations for the U.K.'s Kerrang Awards, including Best Album and two for Best Single. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on August 3. Other multiple nominees include Metallica with five nods, Placebo and Gallows who are up for three awards each, and Enter Shikari, The Prodigy and Green Day with two each.Kevin Jonas, one-third of the teen Pop/Rock band The Jonas Brothers, has gotten engaged to girlfriend Danielle Deleasa. The oldest Jonas brother has been dating Deleasa for two years. Whitney Houston will appear on Good Morning America this September to kick off the ABC show's fall concert series. Rolling Stone reports that a specific date has not been set for the diva's performance. Houston's comeback album is expected out in September as well.
