Quick Hits: Aerosmith, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, Robert Plant, Brand New
July 13, 2009

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer called in to the Danny Bonaduce Show on WYSP/Philadelphia this morning and spoke about the rash of injuries that have hampered the band's current tour, as well as his new book, Hit Hard: A Story Of Hitting Rock Bottom At The Top. Kramer said that Steven Tyler ripped his quadriceps muscle while jumping around on stage, and that is why they've had to cancel recent shows. "It's painful. It hurts," Kramer said. "For the first couple of days he couldn't even stand up or walk." He said he didn't know when the group will be able to get back on the road, since it depends on when Tyler's leg heals. "We're hoping it's in the next week or so, but everything that has been canceled will be rescheduled," Kramer said. He also discussed his battle with depression and drug addiction that is chronicled in the new book.

Jordin Sparks

With Jordin Sparks' new album, Battlefield, coming out on July 21, the singer says she had a lot more time to record her sophomore album than she did with her debut effort. Furthermore, she got to contribute more to the songwriting. Four songs that she penned made the final cut for the album, with two others being used as promotional tracks. "I'm excited for fans to hear my heart and hear what I've been thinking, 'cause it has been about two years [since the first album]," she told Billboard.com. "I've grown up a little bit and gone through a couple of things, so I'm excited to see what people think." Sparks recorded Battlefield between January and June and chose the 12-song tracklist from nearly 40 that she worked on. Writers and producers on the album include OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, StarGate, T-Pain and Dr. Luke, and the set also includes a cover of Fefe Dobson's "Don't Let It Go To Your Head."

Carrie Underwood will headline the Salute to the Troops concert on August 14 for the soldiers and families of Fort Campbell, KY, whose 101st Airborne Division is returning from their service in the Middle East. The show is one of only a handful of live performances that Underwood is doing this summer as she readies her new album, which is due on November 3. Released on 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville, Carrie's third album will continue her collaboration with producer Mark Bright, who helmed 2007’s Carnival Ride as well as seven tracks from her debut, Some Hearts.

Robert Plant has become the latest in a long line of popular musicians (Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John) to be honored by his home country of England when he received his Commander of the British Empire (CBE) from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace over the weekend. Plant's award was for "services to popular music." He denied that the award meant he was now part of the "establishment," as he told the U.K.'s Daily Mail, "The diversity of people who have moved through here this morning prove there is no real establishment here."

After Brand New announced the release of their new full-length album, Daisy, out September 22, the band has also revealed the details for a homecoming event at Nassau Coliseum on November 27 in Uniondale, NY. The band will be joined by a slew of guest artists they handpicked to share the occasion with them, including fellow Long Islanders’ Glassjaw. Brand New's album features a collection of songs produced by longtime friend Mike Sapone and mixed by Dave Sardy (Rage Against the Machine, Cold War Kids).
