Beyoncé | Beyoncé has been added to the lineup of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, which will happen in New York City on September 13. B will sing "Sweet Dreams," the latest single off her I Am ... Sasha Fierce album. She joins the likes of husband Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink and Muse, who have all been confirmed as performers for the VMAs. As previously reported, a new Death Cab For Cutie song, "Meet Me On The Equinox," will debut as part of the VMAs, with the track delivered to radio immediately after the show. The track will be the lead single off the soundtrack to Twilight: New Moon. The song officially impacts at radio on September 22.
Chris Brown will make his first post-sentencing media appearance on Larry King Live on September 2. His mother and his lawyer, Mark Geragos, will join him on the show, according to Rolling Stone. Earlier this week, Brown was sentenced to five years of probation and 180 days of community labor for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. He must also complete a one-year domestic violence counseling program.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's office announced the official cause of death in the Michael Jackson case today, citing "acute propofol intoxication" as the main factor. With police still investigating the singer's death, the coroner's office is withholding the final autopsy report until the police probe is complete. However, the manner of death is ruled as a homicide because the report notes that the drugs propofol and Ativan were found to be the "primary drugs responsible for Mr. Jackson's death," according to MTV News. No charges have been filed yet in the case. Meanwhile, on Saturday, August 29 - which would have been Jackson's 51st birthday - director Spike Lee has organized a celebration in New York's Prospect Park to honor the late singer. Marty Markowitz, the Brooklyn borough president, will present a proclamation declaring the day Michael Jackson Day in Brooklyn. The Rev. Al Sharpton will supply the prayer, and DJ Spinna will supply the music, according to the New York Times. The festivities will get underway at noon and run until 5 p.m. and the event is free.
The Black Crowes have moved up the release date of their new double album, Before the Frost… Until The Freeze, to August 31. The second album, …Until The Freeze, will be given away for free exclusively through a unique download code which is included in Before The Frost… as a thank you to their fans for two decades of continued support.
In 1995, Raekwon stepped out from under the Wu-Tang Clan umbrella to release his solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. Now, on September 8, the rapper will finally offer Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. The sequel features production by RZA and J Dilla as well as verses by fellow Wu Tang Clansmen Inspectah Deck, GZA, Ghostface Killah and Method Man.
