Metallica | Metallica has launched an iPhone application for the band's LiveMetallica site. Any show that fans download from LiveMetallica.com can now also automatically stream via the iPhone, and the latest show posted on the site will always stream for free through the app.
Despite quotes from Thom Yorke that Radiohead are done with the proper album format, guitarist Ed O'Brien tells the NME the band is starting to plot out their next full length release. O'Brien revealed the band will head into the studio this winter with producer Nigel Godrich, adding, "We love the artwork; that's really important to us, the physicality. And we like vinyl. That's not going to go away." He also joked that making an album in the wintertime was "Typical Radiohead... We're going into the studio in winter. It's always miserable! When you're in a studio in the countryside the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is."
Flyleaf's new album, Memento Mori, will include a number of bonus tracks on iTunes. The standard edition will include the new song "Bitter Sweet" and a cover of U2's "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)." The expanded edition adds four more songs, in addition to the two bonus tracks from the standard digital edition. Memento Mori will be released November 10.
Phish has announced a series of tour dates for this fall, following the release of their new album Joy. After playing their own Festival 8 in Indio, CA on October 30 and 31 and November 1, the band will primarily play the eastern half of the U.S. Starting in Detroit on November 18, Phish will tour until December 5 in Charlottesville, VA. They will play two-night stands in Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Albany, as well as three nights at Madison Square Garden in NYC.
Chickenfoot will re-issue their self-titled debut as a deluxe edition on November 1. A European deluxe version had previously been announced. The expanded Chickenfoot, available exclusively at Best Buy, includes a new song ("Bitten By The Wolf") and a DVD of the supergroup on tour.
Producer/DJ David Guetta, whose album One Love has been a smash hit in Europe, will tour the U.S. this fall. His trek starts in Atlanta on November 18 and winds up in Denver on December 3. Guetta also produced the Black Eyed Peas' smash hit "I Gotta Feeling."
Rapper Soulja Boy Tell'em spent Wednesday night in jail, reports MTV News, after being arrested following a police response to a report of juveniles hanging out in an abandoned house in Atlanta. Captain Jason Bolton of the Henry County Police told MTV that the individuals found on site told the police they were shooting a video. Soulja Boy had left the scene, but when he returned to claim his car, was charged with one count of obstruction, a misdemeanor, for running from police.
Producer Shelby Singleton has passed away from brain cancer at the age of 77, according to Reuters. Singleton released the hit song "Harper Valley PTA" on his Plantation Records label in 1968 and also became the only producer to record three #1 hit songs with three different artists in the same day. Singleton also later purchased Sun Records, promoting the label's legendary catalog.
