Janet Jackson will release a new best-of collection, titled Number Ones, on November 17. Thanks to a partnership between Universal Music and EMI Music, the two-disc set compiles 33 of Janet's #1 global hit songs. The compilation includes the new single "Make Me," produced by Janet and Rodney Jerkins. It is her first best-of collection since 1995.Adam Lambert's new single, "Time For Miracles," will appear on the soundtrack to the film 2012. Rolling Stone reports that Lambert is expected to perform the song at the American Music Awards on November 22. "'Time for Miracles' is a great song and perfectly fits the themes of the movie. I was thrilled to record this song for 2012 and I’m glad I had the chance to help create a unique sound for this movie," Lambert said in a statement. The song was produced by Rob Cavallo, who has been recording with the American Idol alum for his debut album. Lambert wrote on Twitter recently, "Last studio day w Rob Cavallo! Can’t wait for everyone to hear our glam rock!!!" "Time For Miracles" was originally written by Alain Johannes (Eleven, Queens Of The Stone Age) and Natasha Shneider, his parter in Eleven, who passed away last year.
The second season of Spectacle: Elvis Costello With... will debut on the Sundance Channel on Wednesday, December 9 at 10 p.m. While the exact running order of the new episodes has yet to be announced, among the confirmed guests are: Bono & The Edge, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Lyle Lovett, John Prine, Ron Sexsmith, Neko Case, Jesse Winchester, Ray LaMontagne, Nick Lowe, Levon Helm, Richard Thompson and Allen Toussaint. Season one of Spectacle is now available on iTunes, and a DVD/BluRay box set will be released on November 10.
John Mayer will celebrate the release of his new album Battle Studies at the Beacon Theatre on November 17 in New York City. The concert will also air on the Fuse network, which will feature Mayer in its programming throughout the month.
The Twilight: New Moon soundtrack has been moved up from its October 20 release date to this Thursday, October 16. The disc includes the new Death Cab For Cutie single "Meet Me On The Equinox," as well as new songs from Thom Yorke of Radiohead, The Killers, OK Go and more. Twilight: New Moon will be in theaters on November 20.
Wyclef Jean will release a new EP, From The Hut To The Projects To The Mansion, on November 10. On the EP, Wyclef takes on the persona of Toussaint St. Jean, loosely based on the 18th-century Haitian revolutionary hero, Toussaint L’Ouverture, a figure who brought Haiti to significance on the international stage. The record will be released by Carnival House/Megaforce/Sony Music, though Jean remains on Columbia and is slated to release a self-titled album in the spring of 2010.
The Flaming Lips will open a "pop-up" store in Hollywood this Thursday, October 15, to celebrate the release of their new album, Embryonic. The band will sell limited edition Lips merchandise at the store, located at the Nike / Ricardo Montalban Theater at 1615 Vine St. in Hollywood. Also, the Lips will play a "secret show" for MySpace at the same location, with tickets available at the store and at Amoeba Records. The Flaming Lips will also appear on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien tonight (10/13).
New songs from Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Joss Stone and John Mellencamp will appear on NCIS: The Official Soundtrack Vol. 2. CBS Records will release the soundtrack on November 3. Dylan's contribution ("California") was recorded in 1965 but remained in Dylan's vaults. The track was never officially released but has been remixed and remastered for the soundtrack.
The legendary Tom Waits will release a live album, Glitter And Doom Live, on November 24. The two-CD set was recorded on his 2008 sold out tour of the U.S. and Europe. Waits has also launched his first official website, tomwaits.com.
Cake is working on their first studio album since 2004, which the band hopes to put out in the spring of 2010. Singer John McCrea tells Billboard the album is being recorded 100% with solar power, and extra electricity their studio generates is sold back to the city of Sacramento each month. He jokes, "As the value of recorded music descends into near nothing, we have the added security of knowing there will be a ten or twenty dollar check coming in each month." Fans on Cake's email list are being sent ringtone snippets of some of the new material online over the next few months, leading up to the new record's release.
