Pearl Jam | On Saturday night, Pearl Jam wrapped up their four-night run at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, playing the last-ever concert at the historic venue. While rumors about special guests and a five-hour set were unfounded, the band did play over three-and-a-half hours, including surprising rarities and covers. Pearl Jam played almost every song on all their studio albums throughout the four shows, as well as a number of B-sides. On Saturday, the band played the Vitalogy oddball "Bugs" for the first time in history, as well as the only performance of the Jeff Ament-sung ode to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, "Sweet Lew." Of course, hits such as "Corduroy," "Jeremy," "Alive" and "Black" made appearances throughout the night as well. The second encore began with the whole band in the Halloween spirit dressed as Devo and covering "Whip It." The concert ended with the one-two punch of "Rockin' In The Free World" and "Yellow Ledbetter."
Rihanna will give her first interviews since her assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in February. The R&B star will speak to Good Morning America on November 5 and 20/20 on November 6. Rihanna's new album, Rated R, is due out on Monday, November 23.
U2's recent concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA broke the Irish superstars' own attendance record in the U.S. U2 had held the record for the largest attendance for one headliner's single concert with 86,145 at the former JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on 1987's Joshua Tree tour. However, the band shattered their own record on October 25 with a sell out crowd of 97,014 at the Rose Bowl, according to Billboard. U2 also holds the third-highest single-concert record as well, as their September 29 U2 360 show outside Washington, D.C. at FedEx Field had a sell out attendance of 84,754.
The Twilight: New Moon Talent Tour will bring the cast of the upcoming film, and bands on its accompanying soundtrack, to Hot Topic stores around the country this month. The tour begins in Hollywood on November 6 with appearances from Death Cab For Cutie, Band Of Skulls, Sea Wolf and Anya Marina. It will hit six other cities with Anya Marina and Hurricane Bells playing. Also, FMQB Productions' special radio broadcast, The Twilight Saga: An Inside Look At New Moon, is airing on radio stations across the country now through November 22. The special features interviews with the cast and the movie’s director, Chris Weitz, along with interviews and music from the artists featured on the soundtrack.
Weezer spent Halloween headlining WRXP (101.9 RXP)/New York's MetroPCS Masquerade concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The band took the stage wearing giant bug costumes and were joined by Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, who dueted with frontman Rivers Cuomo on Weezer's new single, "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To." The new Weezer album, Raditude, arrives in stores tomorrow (November 3).
Phish celebrated their Festival 8 over the weekend in Indio, CA and revealed which classic album the band would be covering for Halloween. Returning to their tradition of covering a record start-to-finish, the jam band played The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street in its entirety Saturday night. Phish also played their first-ever all-acoustic set on Sunday afternoon.
Green Day announced a pair of U.K. stadium gigs set for the summer of 2010, their first stadium shows in the U.K. since Milton Keynes in 2005. Those shows were documented in the live CD/DVD Bullet In A Bible. Green Day will play Manchester Lancashire County Cricket Ground on June 16 and Wembley Stadium in London on June 19. They will also play Paris, France on June 26. Green Day just wrapped up a U.K. tour with a surprise gig as their alter ego, the Foxboro Hot Tubs, in London over the weekend.
Elton John has postponed several upcoming concerts, as he is recovering in the hospital from a battle with the flu and e-coli. Sir Elton has postponed five gigs in England and Ireland, as well as three upcoming U.S. dates alongside Billy Joel.
Indie rockers Spoon will release their seventh album, Transference, on January 26. The 11-track album includes their recent one-off single "Got Nuffin."
Toni Braxton joins Atlantic Records and the label will release the R&B singer's next album on February 2, 2010. The first single from the as-yet-untitled record is "Yesterday." "Atlantic Records has a rich heritage of great soul voices, from Ray Charles to Aretha Franklin, from Otis Redding to Roberta Flack," said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman. "Last year, we had the rare opportunity to bring another R&B icon into the Atlantic family, and for me it was an opportunity of a lifetime. Toni Braxton is not only one of the greatest voices of all time, but she is a charismatic superstar with an incredible list of achievements."
Alanis Morissette will sing the National Anthem tonight at Game Five of the 2009 World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.
Norton Buffalo, who spent 34 years as a member of the Steve Miller Band, has passed away at the age of 58. Spinner reports that Buffalo, who was a solo artist and a session harmonica player as well, died of lung cancer last Friday, October 30.
