| Bon Jovi Circles Back To #1 |
 |
November 18, 2009

Bon Jovi | Bon Jovi returned to the chart this week with their fifth studio album of this decade, The Circle, bowing at #1 by selling 163,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The Circle is the band's fourth #1 album on the Billboard 200 and second chart-topper in a row, following 2007's Lost Highway. The group previously reached the top with Slippery When Wet in 1986 and New Jersey in 1988. All told, Bon Jovi has racked up 10 Top 10 albums and every one of its studio releases since 1986 has reached the Top 10. "Coming after their #1 selling tour of last year, this #1 chart debut for Bon Jovi once again proves they have a loyal fan base that transcends every change in popular music," said Antonio "L.A." Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group. "After two and a half decades of uninterrupted success, Bon Jovi continues to stay at the top of their game, with no signs of slowing down."
The second-highest debut this week comes from Flyleaf, whose sophomore effort, Memento Mori, bows at #8 with a career-high 56,400 sold. The album is the follow up to their self-titled Platinum debut.
The rest of the Top 10 stayed similar to last week's chart. Last week's #1, Carrie Underwood's Play On, slipped to #3 this week with 128,000 sold, while Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas climbed from #3 to #2 by moving another 136,000 units. Michael Jackson's This Is It is at #4 this week with 117,000, Taylor Swift's Fearless holds on at #5 with 91,000, and the NOW 32 compilation falls one space to #6 with 68,000. Michael Buble's Crazy Love is #7 with 58,000 and the Glee soundtrack is at #9 with 56,000. Rounding out the top 10 is the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack with 53,000 units sold.
Other debuts of note this week came from Switchfoot at #13 with Hello Hurricane, selling 38,500, and Dashboard Confessional at #19 with 30,300 copies of Alter The Ending. Rapper Wale starts at #21 with Attention-Deficit, selling 28,000, and Britney Spears' new Singles Collection enters the chart at #22 with sales of 26,800.
