The Edge (photo: Jim Rinaldi) | U2 will play the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival next summer for the first time ever. The 2010 edition of the festival will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Glastonbury fest as well. U2 will headline the first night of the fest, on June 25. "I promised the best possible lineup for the show next year and the confirmation that U2 will play their first ever Glastonbury - and their first major festival gig since the early 1980s - is fantastic news," said Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis in a statement. "We've been trying for years... And now we've finally made it happen. I'm sure they will pull out all the stops to make next year's Glastonbury the most memorable ever."
Busta Rhymes will release his next album, The Chemo, early next year. Speaking to Billboard, the Hip-Hop veteran said, "I called the album The Chemo because it seems like the industry and music overall is dying slowly. The cancer that's stricken the business is killing the music, not only from a business standpoint, but also the value of the content and the creativity behind it. I just want to start the first stage of chemotherapy treatment that needs to take place and hopefully inspire others to do their part and contribute to different stages of the cure." Busta released Back On My B.S. earlier this year, which debuted at #5 on the sales chart.
Rolling Stone reports that a 25th anniversary edition of Whitney Houston's landmark debut album is due out January 19. The CD/DVD deluxe edition of Whitney Houston includes five bonus tracks, new interviews and a 1983 performance on The Merv Griffin Show.
A new Michael Jackson DVD, titled Life & Times Of the King Of Pop 1958-2009, includes footage of the Los Angeles memorial service to MJ that was held this summer. The DVD features appearances from Usher, Janet and Jermaine Jackson, Berry Gordie, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie and others. It is due out December 8.
50 Cent has written a new film, titled The Gun, which the rapper plans to co-star in with actor Val Kilmer. Fiddy and Kilmer attended the American Music Awards together last night and told MTV News the project will get underway next month. 50 Cent and Kilmer worked together previously on the straight-to-video movie Streets Of Blood.
In 2008, a man jumped on stage at an Oasis concert and attacked Noel Gallagher. Now, over a year later, the attacker, 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan, had pled guilty and will be sentenced on February 5. The Toronto Sun reports that Sullivan was drunk at the time of the incident, which happened at the Virgin Festival in Toronto, and doesn't remember anything other than jumping a fence.
