Green Day's American Idiot musical will begin its Broadway run with previews starting March 24 at St. James Theatre. The show's official opening night is April 20. "Experiencing American Idiot onstage in Berkeley was incredible," Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. "Michael Mayer was able to bring life to the characters of American Idiot, and Tom Kitt’s musical arrangements are breathtaking. We’re so proud that the show is coming to Broadway!" American Idiot ran for eight weeks last year in Berkeley, CA, with every show selling out.Nickelback has extended their 2010 tour of North America into June, with 19 new dates. Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown and Sick Puppies remain as the opening acts. The new dates begin in St. Louis on April 23 and wind up in Vancouver, BC on June 3.
The Recording Academy and EMI have announced the 2010 Grammy Nominees CD. The 16th annual release will be out January 19, featuring 20 Grammy-nominated songs from the past year. A portion of the proceeds from all CDs sold will go to charity. The disc includes tracks from the Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kings Of Leon, Katy Perry, Green Day, U2, Coldplay and many more.
And speaking of Katy Perry, the "Hot N Cold" singer is engaged to British comedian Russell Brand. According to a report on UsMagazine.com, the pair got engaged around New Year's Day while on vacation in Jaipur, India. A source told the site that the trip to India "was his Christmas gift. She told him how much she loved Indian culture while they were eating curry in England, so he surprised her."
Adam Lambert will be the focus of a new special on the Fuse network as part of a series of programming about fellow American Idol alumni. Adam Lambert: On The Record With Fuse debuts Monday, January 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
Courtney Love's new iteration of Hole will reportedly make their live debut on February 17 in London. A website for Love's long-awaited new album, Nobody's Daughter, has launched at www.nobodysdaughter.com, with a list of three concerts slated for Europe in February. Love has returned to Twitter and launched a Facebook page for Hole as well.
Atreyu will hit the road with The Used starting January 28 in Anaheim, CA. The concerts will run through February 26 in Birmingham, AL.
A new live CD/DVD from The Pretenders is on the way February 9. Pretenders: Live In London will also be out as its own Blu-ray disc and was recorded on their 2009 world tour.
Soul and R&B producer Willie Mitchell has passed away at the age of 81. Mitchell worked closely with the legendary Al Green and produced many of Green's biggest hits in the 1970s. CNN reports that Mitchell was working closely on music up to his last days, as he worked on Rod Stewart's most recent release and the next album from Solomon Burke.
