Bono has announced that he is spearheading a new campaign to raise awareness and funds for the battle against AIDS and HIV in Africa. At a press conference at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Bono described the cause as "really sexy to me. It is sexy to want to change the world."The "Red" campaign will involve a new line of products from a wide variety of manufacturers, with one percent of the proceeds going to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Maleria. Some of the companies involved include The Gap, Converse and American Express.
In other globetrotting Bono news, on Tuesday (January 24) he received the 2005 German Media Award for his charitable work in Africa. The award has been given to such previous recipients as Nelson Mandela and Bill Clinton.
As for his day job, U2's Vertigo tour returns for another round of concert dates starting February 12 in Mexico. The band will also visit South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii over the next few months.
