Pharrell Williams | Tonight is BET's SOS Saving Ourselves: Help For Haiti benefit telethon, and the lineup has expanded to add Pharrell Williams as a co-host alongside Diddy and Queen Latifah. Additionally, Drake, Nas and Chris Brown will perform, along with Wyclef Jean, Ne-Yo, Keri Hilson and Akon. The telethon will take place live tonight at 8 p.m. ET from Miami, and will air on BET, MTV, VH1 and Centric.
Michael Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, plans to try to surrender to authorities today, even though it remains unclear whether or when prosecutors may file criminal charges against him in Jackson's death. Members of Dr. Murray's legal team said the doctor plans to go to the courthouse at 1:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. ET) if they do not hear anything from authorities, according to CNN. Criminal charges are expected to be filed against Murray "in the near future" and the charge is likely to be involuntary manslaughter.
In the ongoing Aerosmith saga, Joe Perry says that Steven Tyler once tried out to replace Robert Plant in the rumored Led Zeppelin reunion, and that was one of the factors that led Perry to believe that Tyler was not really committed to Aerosmith. "Steven disappeared and I called around. Somebody said that he was in London trying out for Led Zeppelin," Perry told Classic Rock magazine. "It's something I’ve never talked about before outside of the [Aerosmith] family, so to speak, and kept out of the press. It’s a kind of window into how hard it’s been to keep the partnership together. It’s certainly not the first time things like that have happened – that’s the downside of our relationship." Reports say the try out didn't go well and that Tyler was under the impression that he would be writing new material with the band. Perry said that Jimmy Page "felt really awkward about the audition," hence they decided not to hire Tyler.
There have been a lot of all-star music collaborations as of late (i.e. the new "We Are The World" and the R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts" benefit cover), and another one for fans to look forward to is Mary J. Blige's cover of "Stairway To Heaven," featuring Steve Vai and Michael Jackson guitarist Orianthi on rhythm and lead guitars, Travis Barker on drums and American Idol judge Randy Jackson on bass. Producer Ron Fair (Christina Aguilera, Pussycat Dolls) handled the piano, the arrangement and the all-star recruitment for the track, which will appear on Blige’s 10th studio album, due later this year. "What people don't know about me is I've been a Rock & Roll fan for years," Blige told the Los Angeles Times at the recording session. "I loved soft rock as a child. I'm full of this stuff, naturally."

Green Day |
Green Day will be honored by the USA Network in their second annual Character Approved Awards on February 25 in New York. The awards show will feature a performance from the cast of Green Day's American Idiot musical. "Character Approved is a celebration of the real Characters making an impact on our culture today," said Chris McCumber, USA EVP of marketing, digital and brand strategy. "Our honorees are all at the top of their game, and we’re thrilled to shine a light on their unique accomplishments."Bruce Springsteen has asked to have his name removed from an ASCAP lawsuit against a New York bar where a local band covered a few of the Boss' songs. ASCAP sued the bar, asking for a $2,700 unpaid licensing fee, listing Springsteen on the suit as a plaintiff. However, his representatives told the New York Daily News in a statement that "Bruce Springsteen had no knowledge of this lawsuit, was not asked if he would participate as a named plaintiff, and would not have agreed to do so if he had been asked." Slash announced on his blog this week that Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy will sing lead on the guitarist's upcoming tour. Kennedy sings on a track on Slash's impending solo release, simply called Slash, and due out in April through EMI Label Services. Cobra Starship and 3OH!3 will team up for a co-headlining tour, with Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes as the opener. The trek starts April 28 in Milwaukee and wraps up in Philadelphia on June 11. Yesterday, Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta spoke out and defended Taylor Swift, following online complaints about the quality of her Grammy performance on Sunday night. Borchetta took a swipe at American Idol in his comments, saying "This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note." Idol alum Kelly Clarkson has responded in her blog, telling Borchetta, "You know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the 'right' notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better." You can read Clarkson's blog here. Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem and the reunited Pavement will headline this summer's Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago from July 16-18 in Union Park. Modest Mouse will headline the first night, with LCD Soundsystem on Saturday and Pavement on Sunday. The rest of the lineup is still being rolled out.
