Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) have become the latest House co-sponsors of a bipartisan Congressional resolution opposing a performance fee on local radio stations. The Local Radio Freedom Act (H. Con. Res. 49), which opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge," is now backed by 258 House lawmakers, 40 more than a House majority.

Digital Music News reports that Canadian album sales fell 2.2 percent last year, according to new data released by Nielsen Soundscan. Approximately 35.1 million units were sold in Canada in 2009. As one would expect, digital sales rose last year, with 56 million digital songs sold and digital albums making up 13.6 percent of total album sales.
