House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Emeritus John Dingell (D-MI) and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) have become the latest House co-sponsors of a bipartisan Congressional resolution opposing a performance fee on local radio stations. The Local Radio Freedom Act (H. Con. Res. 49), which opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge," is now backed by 258 House lawmakers, 40 more than a House majority.

A bankruptcy court judge has set April 21 as the deadline for creditors to file proof of their claims to Citadel Broadcasting. Government units filing have a deadline of June 18.

Digital Music News reports that Canadian album sales fell 2.2 percent last year, according to new data released by Nielsen Soundscan. Approximately 35.1 million units were sold in Canada in 2009. As one would expect, digital sales rose last year, with 56 million digital songs sold and digital albums making up 13.6 percent of total album sales.

FMQB offers condolences to the family and friends of music industry vet Ricky Leigh Mensh, who passed away on Thursday (3/11) in West Palm Beach. He was 49. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 16 at 11am at Danzansky and Goldberg Funeral Home in Rockville, MD
