Universal Motown Records Music Group will expand to two autonomous labels: Universal Republic and Universal Motown. Current Universal Records President Monte Lipman will head up Universal Republic, while Motown President Sylvia Rhone will helm the Universal Motown label. Both labels will have separate national and field promotion staffs, as well as separate marketing and publicity departments. The labels will share some services like new media and finance. Staffing issues for both labels are currently a work-in-progress.
Although top tier executives are also currently ironing out the complete artist rosters for the respective labels, expect Universal Republic to be the home to Jack Johnson, Prince, Damian Marley, Godsmack, Three Doors Down, Hinder and 10 Years. As for Universal Motown expect the roster to include: Blackground artists JoJo and Ashley Parker Angel; Cash/Money artists Baby, Big Tymers, Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh, Tina Marie; Nelly; Chamillionaire; the SRC/Steve Rifkind imprint; and Motown proper artists like Erykah Badu, india.aire, Stevie Wonder, Penelope, Yummy and new signing Mya.
