NAB Officially Confirms Gordon Smith As President/CEO

The National Association of Broadcasters Joint Board of Directors held meetings in Washington, D.C. on June 15 and 16 where a number of topics were discussed and appointments to the board were officially confirmed. The Joint Board approved Gordon Smith as President and CEO, they elected NAB COO/CFO Janet McGregor as Secretary/Treasurer, and Commonwealth Broadcasting CEO Steve Newberry was confirmed as Joint Board Chair.
On the radio side, Beasley Broadcasting's Caroline Beasley was elected Radio Board Chair, Emmis Communications' Rick Cummings was elected Radio Board First Vice Chairman, and Randy Gravley, President and CEO of Tri State Communications, was re-elected as Radio Board Second Vice Chairman. Cumulus Media Chairman, CEO and President Lew Dickey was elected to the Radio Board's major group representative seat.
Additionally, Newberry and Smith updated the Board on association activities, including legislative and regulatory issues facing the broadcast business. Smith provided the Board with his insight on specific legislative and regulatory issues related to broadcasting, and detailed his vision for the future of NAB, stressing the importance of unity and prioritization. NAB EVP of Media Relations Dennis Wharton briefed the Board on the importance of promoting stations' free political airtime initiatives, and Smith and Laurie Knight provided the Radio Board with a detailed update on the status of legislative issues such as the performance tax and low power FM.
