Quick Hits: Kanye West, John Lennon, Jessica Simpson, Michael Jackson, Seal, Jay Sean, Neil Young
July 29, 2010

After performing at the Facebook offices this week, Kanye West also hit up Twitter HQ on Wednesday and spit a few bars from his next album, which will no longer be called Good Ass Job. Videos have surfaced online of West rapping in a dark gray suit. The performance went down on the same day that he joined Twitter, and some of the employees Tweeted about his performance, writing, "Welcome to Twitter, @kanyewest, and thanks for the visit today." Several photos of the Rapper's visit were also posted on the website's Flickr page.

John Lennon

In honor of John Lennon's 70th birthday on Saturday, October 9, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and BoxofVision LLC will create three time capsules of Lennon's post-Beatles recordings and fan contributions submitted via www.BoxOfVision.com/TimeCapsule. The time capsules will be preserved and stored until they are opened in a ceremonial presentation on October 9, 2040. They will be stored at the Rock Hall and two additional world locations that have significance to Lennon's legacy. The public is invited to submit birthday wishes, commentary, musical performances and personal thoughts on Lennon's legacy until September 15. Along with those contributions, the capsules will include Lennon's post-Beatles recordings, newly restored art prints of his LP artwork, a newly commissioned essay on his career and other related items.

The latest rumor about American Idol is that Jessica Simpson is being considering as a potential replacement for judge Simon Cowell. According to Entertainment Weekly, a source close to Simpson said she has had several meetings with Idol brass about possibly joining the show for the upcoming tenth season, which kicks off in January 2011. Yesterday, reps for both Justin Timberlake and Elton John denied that those stars would be joining the Idol judges' table.

Seven doctors who treated Michael Jackson will not be charged in the singer's death, according to an MTV News report. However, this does not include Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray, who has been charged and pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The other physicians were under scrutiny as part of an investigation launched by California's Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. A preliminary hearing in the Jackson manslaughter case is slated for August and Murray faces a sentence of up to four years in jail.

Seal will release his sixth studio album, Seal 6: Commitment, on September 28 via Reprise Records. The lead single is titled "Secret." Of the new record, Seal says, "Everything about my life is fully committed. I've never felt more focused on the matter at hand: My wife, my children, the family in general, my own well-being, and of course music and my career. Each one of these songs has personal meaning for me. I dug very deep and all I can hope for is that the music strikes a chord with people."

U.K. Pop star Jay Sean, known for last year's smash hit "Down," returns with Freeze Time, due out November 2 from Cash Money/Universal Republic. His new single, "2012 (It Ain't The End)," features Nicki Minaj.

Producer/musician Daniel Lanois tells Rolling Stone that Neil Young is mixing a new album, which the two recorded together in Los Angeles earlier this year. "We cut a couple of solo acoustic songs, but the rest is very electric," says Lanois. "There's no band, but I got in there with my sonics. There's nothing else out there like it." Rolling Stone also reports that Young's next volume of his Archives box set collection could be out sometime soon, which is expected to span much of the mid to late 1970s and include three unreleased Young albums.
