Val Garay, John Kosh Launch Red Red Records
November 10, 2010

Grammy Award winners Val Garay and John Kosh have partnered with attorney George Woolverton to launch a new label, Red Red Records. Garay is a music-industry veteran and has done production and engineering work with James Taylor, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Rondstadt, Queensryche, Sarah Brightman, Kim Carnes and others. Kosh, the former creative director for The Beatles’ Apple Records, is the man behind the iconic album covers for Abbey Road, The Who’s Who’s Next, The Eagles’ Hotel California and Ronstadt's Simple Dreams. Kosh has also worked with Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffett and, through his Ten Worlds Productions, comedian/author Lewis Black. Kosh serves as the new label's Creative Director, Woolverton is CEO, and Garay is producing the label's artists.

"Red Red Records will have a roster of proprietary artists, but other musicians will also be able to benefit from our expertise in production, mixing, songwriting, creative direction and other aspects of making and marketing music," explained Garay. "Our model is the original Asylum Records [co-founded in 1971 by David Geffen]. That label was built on artistic freedom, which is our guiding principle, too."

"I'm thrilled to be part of Red Red Records," added Kosh. "Music has always moved me, from the Royal Opera to rock and roll, and inspired me to create some rather famous – sometimes infamous – icons. Combining the talent of much-vaunted producer Val Garay with my visual touch, plus the business savvy of George Woolverton, will make Red Red unstoppable."

Woolverton commented, "In addition to what we can provide to our existing roster, we’ll offer a unique opportunity in today’s marketplace by making the talents of Val Garay and John Kosh available to emerging artists. Access to these creative executives is a significant advantage in creating the best record possible. Val and Kosh can offer the kind of guidance that was previously available only to an artist signed to a major label. The company will also supply the marketing services required to support the finished product. Our goal is to encourage creative freedom but also ensure that all aspects of the release are maximized."

Red Red Records’ first release, In the Blink of an Eye, comes from Los Angeles Pop singer/songwriter Katrina. The Garay-produced album is expected in the first quarter of 2011.
