The entire FMQB family is so sorry to learn of the passing of the legendary Bobby Poe, Sr., who succumbed to a blood clot on Saturday, January 22. FMQB CEO Fred Deane respectfully remarks, "Back in the day, 'The Poe Kat' was a true original in a business that promoted imitation. Bobby represented everything that was good about the golden era of records and radio. For a quarter of a century the Poe Convention was the ultimate gathering of the industry. Its success was never truly measured by the sheer number of people who attended, but by the relationship building that the convention cultivated. Many radio and record folks were initiated into the business via the Poe conventions, and everyone who attended those gala events are sure to affectionately recall the feelings of joy, fun and camaraderie that those gatherings fostered over the years."
Bobby Poe, Sr. successfully owned and operated the Pop Music Survey tipsheet for over two and a half decades leading to The Poe Kat’s retirement in 1996. Bobby Poe, Jr. was also an instrumental part of the success of the company.
Memories services for Poe will be held this Thursday (1/27) at the First Christian Church, 102 West 4th Street, Grove, OK at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the Poe family has asked that donations be made in Bobby's name to The Bogart Pediatric Cancer Research Program. Friends and family are invited to leave online condolences here.
