"We Will Rock You" Still Most Popular Sporting Event Anthem
February 24, 2011

Nickelback
Queen's classic "We Will Rock You" is still the most-played song at sporting events, according to a new survey from BMI, the royalty-distribution service. According to its data, based off of MLB, NFL and NHL games in 2009-2010, "We Will Rock You" was the #1 song overall, as well as for the NFL specifically. The #2 song was Kevin Rudolf and Lil Wayne's "Let It Rock," followed by Nickelback's "Burn It To The Ground." The top five is rounded out by Black Eyed Peas' smash hit "Boom Boom Pow" and Christina Aguilera's cover of "Car Wash."

In fact, Aguilera's cover of "Car Wash" (which features Missy Elliott) was the most-played song at MLB games last season. The most-played song at NHL games was 2 Unlimited's "Twilight Zone."

“The fact that the top sports songs from football, hockey, and baseball have been popular for two decades or more illustrates the enduring value of great music,” said BMI President/CEO Del Bryant. “When we celebrate good times and memorable occasions, we turn to superb music that has stood the test of time.”

The rest of the top ten was rounded out by: Sean Kingston - "Fire Burning;" Blur - "Song 2;" Soulja Boy Tell Em - "Turn My Swag On;" Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West's collaboration "Run This Town" and Bush - "Machinehead."
