Beach Boys Receive RIAA's Top Monthly Album Award
June 14, 2012

The Beach Boys
In a week when The Beach Boys scored their highest-ranking debut album ever with That's Why God Made the Radio (which opened at #3 on the sales chart), the crooners also earned May's highest album certification from the RIAA. According to the newest monthly Gold & Platinum Program tally, Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of the Beach Boys is now certified 3x multi-Platinum, just in time for the band's 50th anniversary and first tour in more than two decades. Meanwhile, Australian singer Gotye earned Gold status in May as his album, Making Mirrors, reached 500,000 copies sold. Lionel Richie's March release, Tuskegee, reached Platinum recognition in May, giving him his sixth such certification.

More than four million digital purchases of "Super Bass" earned Nicki Minaj the month's top song certification, as her track scored a 4x multi-Platinum award. This is also Nicki's highest certified song yet. At the same time, her latest single, "Starships," went Platinum. Pop duo Karmin also earned an RIAA Gold award for
their song, "Brokenhearted," and "What Makes You Beautiful" has earned British group One Direction their first double-Platinum plaque.

Elsewhere,
Florence + The Machine and J.Cole doubled up in May, earning their second 2x multi-Platinum awards for their respective singles, "Shake It Out" and "Can’t Get Enough." First-time Platinum download certifications were awarded to Ellie Goulding and Blue October for their respective tunes, "Lights" and "Into the Ocean."
