Former 'FNX Staffers Join Boston.com For New Internet Radio Station
June 25, 2012
With legendary Modern Rocker WFNX/Boston set to flip formats in the near future, and its staffers having been let go, The Boston Globe's Boston.com has announced plans to launch its own Internet radio station, run by 'FNX alums. According to Boston.com GM Lisa DeSisto, the still-unnamed station will have a presence on the website's homepage and feature a variety of live programming: music, commentary, contests, interviews, and exclusive online content.
"Boston.com has been at the forefront of multimedia for some time now, producing award-winning videos, live video programming, interactive content, and more," DeSisto said. "We’ve long thought radio would be a natural extension for us, and we’re fortunate to launch with such an incredible team."
The station will be staffed by several former employees of 'FNX, including ex-PD Paul Driscoll and DJs Henry Santoro, JulieKramer and Adam 12, as well as former sales rep Johnny L Lavasseur and operations and promotions director MikeSnow. The launch date of the Boston.com station and its programming schedule will be announced later this summer.
Boston Globe publisher Chris Mayer added that the new station will be an extension of Boston.com's current goals. "It’s another way to engage readers or viewers who come to Boston.com looking for all things Boston," Mayer said. "As a media company, our strategy is to offer products consistent with our brand that deliver value to advertisers and to our audience."
WFNX's new owner Clear Channel is slated to flip to an as-yet-unknown new format on July 23.
