As the new single from The Killers, "Runaways," hits radio today, the band has set September 18 as the release date for their new album, Battle Born. It will be The Killers' first effort in four years, and they have been working diligently in their Las Vegas studio with producers such as Brendan O'Brien, Steve Lillywhite, Daniel Lanois and Stuart Price, who produced their previous album, 2008's Day & Age.
"I see every album as a reaction to the album before it," frontman Brandon Flowers told Spin about the new record. "Sometimes it’s a reaction to the critics, which is ridiculous. I shouldn't listen so much to what they say. But I don’t write songs to try to make them happy. We write songs that we like to play."
Flowers also explained that even though he and drummer Ronnie Vannucci recorded solo albums during the band's 2010 hiatus, they were never in danger of breaking up. "We had been at it a while and needed time away to work on our own stuff," Flowers said. "I don't think any of us thought the hiatus would be permanent."
