Merlin Media Classic Rock WLUP (The Loop) MD Walter Flakus adds APD/MD duties for sister Modern Rock WKQX (Q87.7). Prior to joining The Loop, Flakus spent time at XM and Q Prime Management and was a founding member of the band Stabbing Westward.
Alicia Tyler joins Stephens Media-Rochester for weekends at Modern Rocker WZNE (The Zone), as well as fill-ins on sister Adult Hits WFKL. Tyler returns to her hometown after recently exiting Modern AC KLCK (Click 98.9)/Seattle.
Pandora expands its reach overseas, as the popular digital service will debut in Australia and New Zealand. The New York Times reports Pandora is now quietly offering limited, Web-only versions of its streaming service in both countries. Licensing issues in 2008 led to Pandora being blocked outside the U.S. Pandora has reportedly inked licensings agreements in Australia and New Zealand.
Fisher Interative Network and Vadio announce a partnership, launching new technology to sync music videos on the Web with radio broadcasts in real time. The technology is debuting on the website of Hot AC KPLZ (Star 101.5)/Seattle.
Long time Opie & Anthony producer Steve Carlesi has passed away, with no details available as to cause of death at this time. Carlesi began his career with the band Foundry in the mid 90s. From there, he went on to work at WNEW 102.7 in New York City, and by the late 90s was teamed up with Opie & Anthony on WNEW, where he helped out with show production and maintained their unofficial website. Steve continued to work with O&A until their firing in 2002, and then rejoined the show as a producer when O&A were hired by XM Satellite Radio in 2004. He was executive producer of the show before being a victim of SiriusXM cutbacks. After O&A, Carlesi joined WYSP/Philadelphia as a producer of the Danny Bonaduce show and had most recently been working at WEZX/Wilkes Barre-Scranton. O&A spent their show today paying tribute to their friend, and also took to Twitter for personal messages. Gregg Opie Hughes: "Yes Steve Carlisi (sic) aka @foundrymusic has died. We are deeply saddened and heartbroken. Our thoughts go out to his beautiful wife and son." Anthony Cumia: "Life, ugh. Bye Steve. If you see me comin' Best get out of my way, The pendulum is swinging back the other way." Jim Norton: "So sad to hear about Steve C. He was a genuinely sweet guy and I had so many fun memories with him. He will be truly missed. RIP."
