Metallica
As Metallica gets ready to play at San Francisco's Outside Lands festival from August 10-12, the bay-area locals are especially excited that it will be their first time playing in Golden Gate Park. "As a Bay Area resident and as a music fan, going to see Outside Lands every year is a huge thing," drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone. "There's a long, long, long history of experiences and culture and music [in Golden Gate Park]. It's a history that dates back to the Sixties, when bands like the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane would perform free shows in the park." After Outside Lands, Metallica plans to spend the rest of their summer working on their 3D movie project and then they will start work on a new album in early September. Ulrich also said they'll bring back their Orion Music + More festival next year. "We had a great experience in New Jersey, and as we look to 2013, we're definitely looking to keep it in New Jersey or to keep it on the East Coast," he said.

Carly Rae Jepsen is inching closer to the release of her debut album in September, but she is still being tight-lipped about her big collaboration with Justin Bieber. "The Justin song, I'm kind of sworn to secrecy on because I think we want to release it together at one moment," Jepsen explained to MTV News about the track's rollout. "But the rest of the album, I'm really excited for." However, she was willing to talk about her work with LMFAO's RedFoo, which might be her favorite track on the album. "There's one particular song that I can't wait to share called 'This Kiss' that I wrote with Matthew Koma and Redfoo from LMFAO," she explained. "[The sound is] definitely in my vein, but he's a really brilliant guy, and I think if anything when a collaboration happens, it's a little bit of everybody that makes it what it is. So maybe not just me and not just him, but us together."

Rob Thomas is the latest singer to join The Voice as a mentor. The Matchbox 20 frontman will assist Cee Lo Green's team when the show returns for its third season on September 10. "I'm really excited to work with Cee Lo and love the idea that I may be in the room with a future superstar that the world has yet to discover," Thomas told Us Weekly. NBC has yet to announce the mentors for Christina Aguilera's team, but Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble have already been announced as mentors for Adam Levine and Blake Shelton's teams, respectively.

The manufacturer of Bratz dolls is suing Lady Gaga and her management company for $10 million, claiming that they've delayed the approval of a line of Gaga dolls. Bratz maker MGA Entertainment Inc. filed the suit against Atom Factory (Gaga's management company) and Bravado International Group, claiming that MGA agreed in December 2011 to make Gaga dolls at Bravado's "request and insistence," paying the company a $1 million advance fee. They planned to ship the dolls to retailers this summer to get a jump on the holiday season, but in April, Bravado reportedly told MGA that Gaga wanted to delay production and shipping of the dolls until her upcoming album is released next year. Now MGA claims that Gaga and her team have continued to withhold final approval on the designs in order to delay production, and they are claiming breach of contract, according to Bloomberg News. A spokeswoman for Gaga told Bloomberg that the singer has no comment on the suit, and she added that the dispute is between Bravado and MGA. "There was no legitimate reason for dragging Lady Gaga into that dispute," the spokeswoman said. "Lady Gaga will vigorously defend MGA's ill-conceived lawsuit and is confident that she will prevail."

Katy Perry will be the new face of the Popchips snack and she will appear in advertising for the brand this fall. "I was hooked after my first bite!" Perry said in a statement. "When I discover something good, I want to share it with everyone I know, so I tweeted about it." Perry will also be investing in the company and she will serve as a creative partner, joining fellow Popchips investors such as Ashton Kutcher, David Ortiz and Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Elton John, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, Brian May, Tinie Tempeh and more have penned a letter to British Prime Minister David Cameron in hopes that Internet providers, advertisers and search engines will help crack down on music piracy. The authors urge the British government to implement the antipiracy-focused Digital Economy Act 2010. In the letter, published by The Guardian, they wrote: "Britain's share of the global music market is higher than ever with British artists, led by Adele, breaking through to global stardom. As a digitally advanced nation whose language is spoken around the world, Britain is well-positioned to increase its exports in the digital age... We can only realise this potential if we have a strong domestic copyright framework, so that British creative industries can earn a fair return on their huge investments creating original content. Illegal activity online must be pushed to the margins. This will benefit consumers, giving confidence they are buying safely online from legal websites. The simplest way to ensure this would be to implement the long-overdue measures in the Digital Economy Act 2010; and to ensure broadband providers, search engines and online advertisers play their part in protecting consumers and creators from illegal sites."
