In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry discuss the long-awaited new Aerosmith record, as well as Tyler's recent exit from American Idol. Tyler says that he originally joined Idol to escape the drama happening in the band, telling RS that "It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest," he says, adding that the Fox show was "not my cup of tea." However, Tyler says of his two season stint on Idol, "I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life."
Tyler and Perry said that the singer was working two jobs at the time, shooting Idol during the day then recording with Aerosmith at night. "He did double duty," says Perry. "I never felt for a minute he was lagging in the studio because of his other job. He did his whole thing [on Idol] and then showed up at eight at night and was in the studio until two in the morning."
The new Aerosmith album, Music From Another Dimension!, is expected out later this year. Country-pop star CarrieUnderwood duets with Tyler on "Beautiful," which is described as "a country-western crossover ballad." Julian Lennon also sings harmony on the new song "Love Three Times A Day," while actor Johnny Depp contributes backing vocals to "Freedom Fighter," though that song may not make the final track list.
