Emmis Communications has delayed its shareholder vote, originally set for August 14, which would potentially wipe out over $34 million in stock dividends. Earlier this week, Emmis preferred shareholders asked an Indianapolis judge to block the meeting, alleging that the proposed changes are the first step in a new plan for Jeff Smulyan to attempt taking Emmis private once again. Bloomberg reports that U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans ended the hearing suggesting that both sides find a way to compensate the shareholders for any losses, while also letting Emmis move forward with its plan. Evans is expected to make a ruling by August 31, and Emmis will not reconvene its board until after Labor Day.
