Quick Hits: Green Day, Forbes Hip-Hop cash kings, Seether, Slipknot, Concert for Marriage Equality, UR1 Festival, Rock Vegas festival, Thom Yorke, Kylie Minogue, Christina Perri
September 6, 2012

Three days after Green Day were forced to cancel a show in Bologna, Italy following frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's hospitalization, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool were backstage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles getting ready to perform at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air tonight. "Billie came down with heavy, heavy dehydration; it was like severe dehydration, influenza, and it was just a really, really bad situation," Dirnt told MTV. "He woke up in the morning and it was bad. Let's put it this way, if you're in your hotel room and you're vomiting profusely, it's not fun. So what are you gonna do? It's hard to sing while you're puking." As for tonight's show, Dirnt added: "We're ready to rock, we're gonna be here, we're gonna have a good time."

Dr. Dre leads Forbes' list of Hip-Hop "cash kings," as the magazine says the producer/rapper/entrepreneur brought in $110 million in earnings in 2011, more than twice second place Sean "Diddy" Combs ($45 million). Jay-Z was ranked third with $38 million, his pal Kanye West was fourth with $35 million and Lil Wayne was ranked fifth with $27 million. Forbes' top ten is rounded out by Drake ($20.5 million), Bryan "Birdman" Williams ($20 million), Nicki Minaj ($15.5 million), Eminem ($15 million) and Ludacris ($12 million).

Seether receive plaques at the
Rise Above Fest.

In honor of 10 years of incredible success and the 10th anniversary of their U.S. debut album, Disclaimer, the members of Seether were surprised backstage on Labor Day by Wind-up Records President/CEO Ed Vetri and the band's manager, Jack Rovner, President of Vector Management. The two music executives presented the band with plaques that reflected the groups momentous 10 years with the label, their six albums that have all reached either gold or platinum status, and their extraordinary radio and touring accomplishments. The presentation was made at the inaugural Rise Above Fest in New Hampshire, a charity event that was formed by Seether in conjunction with NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness) to raise funds for and awareness of suicide prevention and mental illness. Meanwhile, Seether will be launching their Triple Treat Tour on September 14 in Kansas City, MO with Sick Puppies and Kyng. Wind-up labelmates Young Guns will open through October 3 and then Eye Empire will open through the end of the tour.

An Iowa doctor who allegedly overprescribed painkillers for Slipknot bassist Paul Gray is accused of causing the musician's 2010 death, as well as that of seven others, the Des Moines Register reports. Dr. Daniel Baldi has pleaded not guilty to the eight counts of involuntary manslaughter, but if convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison. Speaking on the charges, Slipknot's Shawn "Clown" Crahan told the Register, "None of it is going to bring back our brother Paul," but he added, "Hopefully justice will be served."

fun., They Might Be Giants, Rufus Wainwright and The National are among the artists performing at Freedom To Love Now!: A Concert For Marriage Equality. The all-star event is slated for October 30 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Kanye West tops the lineup of the new UR1 festival in Miami this December. The Offspring, Lou Reed and Keane are among the other acts announced for UR1, according to Miami New Times. The festival is slated for December 8-9.

The Rock Vegas Festival will take place Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29 at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, and the updated lineup for the event includes Hellyeah (in place of Papa Roach, who is unable to perform due to lead singer Jacoby Shaddix's recent vocal surgery), a solo performance by Corey Taylor, Fozzy (featuring WWE Superstar Chris Jericho), and breaking band Mindset Evolution. They join the previously announced lineup of Shinedown, Godsmack, Staind, Adelitas Way, P.O.D., Redlight King and Deuce on Friday, and Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Buckcherry, All That Remains, Art of Dying, New Medicine and Otherwise on Saturday.

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's side project Atoms For Peace will release a new single, "Default," on September 10 digitally via XL Recordings. The band includes Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and producer Nigel Godrich. Yorke has said in past interviews he hoped to release the first Atoms For Peace record by the end of 2012.

Kylie Minogue has announced that she will release The Abbey Road Sessions in the U.S. on November 6. The album, which was recorded in London's legendary Abbey Road Studios with Kylie's band and a full orchestra, features 16 classic Kylie tracks, all radically reworked, spanning her 25-year career. It features hits including "I Should Be So Lucky," "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "The Locomotion," while Nick Cave also re-recorded his vocal on the 1996 duet "Where The Wild Roses Grow" especially for the new album.

Pop singer Christina Perri will release a Holiday-theme EP, A Very Merry Perri Christmas, on October 16. The six-song collection combines covers of five Christmas classics plus the new song "Something About December." Perri is currently on the road opening up for Jason Mraz.
