Slipknot has released a brief statement after Iowa doctor Daniel Baldi was charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly overprescribing painkillers to bassist Paul Gray, resulting in his death in 2010. The doctor has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of involuntary manslaughter, but if convicted, he could face up to 16 years in prison. "As the loss of our brother Paul Gray is still very fresh for us in the Slipknot family, this new development has us all in a state of anger and sadness," reads a post on the band's website. "The fact that this person took advantage of our brother’s illness while he was in a position to help others has outraged everyone in our family. We can only hope that justice will be served so this can NEVER happen to anyone else ever again! Our thoughts go out to the families of the other victims. We plan to cooperate as much as we possibly can to ensure this tragedy is never repeated, and to make sure this man pays for what he has done."

The Black Keys spent a week in a recording studio in July laying down some ideas for their next album. After more touring, the duo will regroup in early 2013 to begin officially recording. However, it's too early to judge what the next effort will sound like. "We never know what's going to happen," guitarist Dan Auerbach told Rolling Stone. "We don't talk about it. We don't plan it. We start recording, and then all of a sudden it starts to take shape and we have an idea." Auerbach adds that each Black Keys album, to him, represents "a snapshot of a moment in time. We like to let them be like that. Sort of a spontaneous thing."

Before the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday night, Nicki Minaj told E! that she'll be re-releasing her latest album in November as Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded — The Re-Up, and that it will include "lots of new songs." Minaj added that next week she'll be offering a new single from the Re-Up.

Last night at the MTV VMAs, Alicia Keys premiered the new song "Girl On Fire." But before the show, she said on the red carpet that her new album, also called Girl On Fire, will be really raw. "It's coming in November and I love it. I really am connected to it," she told Rolling Stone. "I really believe that when people hear it they're gonna relate to it in a way that's gonna surprise them... I feel very different, I feel like even the writing style and the way that I've been able to access how I feel has gone to a different place and I feel it's even more raw. It's even more kind of diverse in its topics and I love how it feels."

This past weekend at Philadelphia's Made In America festival, Pearl Jam and Jay-Z joined forces onstage for a performance of Jay's "99 Problems" mashed up with Pearl Jam's "W.M.A." While the collaboration sounded tight, PJ bassist Jeff Ament says it actually came together at the eleventh hour. "We had been talking about it loosely," Ament told Spin of the idea to collaborate. "Ed [Vedder] had a conversation with Jay-Z maybe a month ago, so we knew it was a possibility and started doing the work on our end, mashing up one of our songs with one of his because groove-wise, we thought it would work. But we didn't really know until a half hour before the show, when he came back and played it with us, that we were going to do it. And within 30 seconds, we knew it was going to be good. And I think he knew it was going to be good, too."

The soundtrack for the video game NHL 13 has been revealed, featuring a number of Punk Rock and Active Rock artists. Shinedown, Foxy Shazam, Gaslight Anthem and The Offspring will be featured on the soundtrack, along with Band of Skulls, Anti-Flag, My Darkest Days and more.

The band Atoms For Peace, featuring Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and producer Nigel Godrich, is streaming a new song called "Default" on their website, http://atomsforpeace.info/. A 12" vinyl version of the single will follow next month and an album will be coming out next year. Yorke wrote on the Radiohead blog: "The name comes from some shows of The Eraser that happened a couple of years ago with Mauro, Joey, Nigel and Flea. We got a big buzz from them and discovered loads of energy from transforming the music from electronic to live, and so afterwards, we carried on for a few days in the studio and decided to make it a loose, on-going thing."
