VEVO Releases Q2 Viewership Metrics

Online music video service VEVO has released its viewership metrics for the second quarter of 2012. According to the VEVO Music Video Viewership Quarterly Report, 40 billion music videos were watched globally in the last year (July 2011-June 2012); 9.3 billion music videos were watched during the same time period in the U.S. Additionally, 103 million videos on average are watched in a day

VEVO’s global reach now includes 3 billion video streams worldwide each month. Unique monthly viewers are up 6.5 percent year-over-year and monthly video streams are up 9.6 percent. Mobile continues to be VEVO’s fastest growing platform with 18 million mobile and tablet apps downloaded to date, up 146 percent from the same time period last year, and VEVO’s most popular mobile platform is iOS.

Mobile traffic nearly doubled in Q2 2012, with over 1.3 billion streams globally. Monthly, mobile active users have also grown nearly 33 percent to five million (as of June 2012). Average videos watched on mobile each month/per user increased 11 percent to 15 videos.

Also, 87 percent of VEVO viewers have watched videos with someone else. Co-viewers are most likely to watch with friends (81 percent) and siblings (49 percent). 64 percent of mobile viewers have watched music videos on their phone with someone else, encouraging better discovery of music, while 78 percent of users agree that watching a song’s music video has made them like that particular song or artist more. VEVO found that 56 percent of users agree that they listen to more music overall because of online music video availability and 71 percent of users agree that they discover new music through browsing and watching music videos online.

The most popular artists on VEVO over the Independence Day and Memorial Day holidays were Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, David Guetta, One Direction and Rihanna.
