Hurricane Sandy Hitting East Coast, Stay Informed
October 29, 2012

The massive "Frankenstorm" Hurricane Sandy is currently moving up the Eastern coastline, and is expected to make landfall tonight in southern New Jersey, in Atlantic City. Approximately 50 million people are estimated to be affected by the storm.

Residents in the northeast are encouraged to stay informed about the latest developments with the storm, Local radio stations in all markets along the east coast corridor are working in conjunction with other local broadcasters to keep listeners up to date about Hurricane Sandy and its effects on roadways, electricity and more.

Cities, and even entire states, are closing up roads and businesses today and tomorrow in preparation for Sandy's effects, with a state of emergency declared in numerous locations. New York City's subway system has been shut down, with multiple areas of the Big Apple evacuated. A number of concerts have been canceled or postponed in Philadelphia, New York City and other cities as well.

NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith issued a statement on media coverage of the storm, saying, "I salute the remarkable work of our radio and TV station colleagues now putting themselves in harm's way to keep millions of people safe and informed on the devastation of this deadly storm. As FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate noted this weekend, in times of emergency there is no more reliable source of information than that coming from local broadcasters. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those in the path of Hurricane Sandy."

FMQB urges its readers to stay tuned to your local broadcasters for the latest information on how the storm could affect you and your region of the country.
