As fans eagerly await the final film in the Twilight series, MTV is set to world premiere Green Day's music video for "The Forgotten" tonight (October 30) at 6:55 p.m. ET/PT on MTV and MTV.com. "The Forgotten" is the first music video from the film's soundtrack and also features footage from Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2. The song marks the band's first contribution to a Twilight soundtrack, which will be available three days before the film's release, on Tuesday, November 13. Other acts featured on the soundtrack include Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding, St. Vincent and Christina Perri.
"When we were asked to be part of the Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 soundtrack, we readily agreed because the films are an insane cultural phenomenon," bassist Mike Dirnt told Yahoo! of why the group chose to get involved with the franchise. "We have always been impressed with the way the Twilight soundtracks are so carefully curated."
As reported yesterday, Green Day was forced to cancel all of their 2012 appearances, as well as postpone their upcoming North American arena tour, due to singer Billie Joe Armstrong's current stint in rehab. The band also announced they would move up the release date of ˇTré! to December 11, 2012 from its original date of January 15, 2013. ˇDos! will be out on November 13.
"We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned," said drummer Tré Cool. "If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing."
