Helping New York City: John Stewart’s On A Mission

John Stewart
One man’s efforts can make a difference…We spoke on Friday with John Stewart, Director of Programming for D.A. Peterson’s Canton, OH properties (CHR) WDJQ and (AC) WDPN-AM, about his personal efforts of collectively organizing a mission of relief for New York City Hurricane victims. He had his plan of action laid out and was reaching out to other stations in the market for a collaborative effort. NextMedia responded, as direct competitor WHBC-AM & FM decided to join the cause. This past Saturday, John procured a thirty foot truck to collect, store and transport supplies to New York.
We checked in with John this morning to get an update of his progress and he had this to offer FMQB, "We have the truck and we’re going to start collecting tomorrow (11/6) at The Pro Football Hall of Fame parking lot, which is a real high profile location for Canton. We’ll collect supplies throughout the week until Friday. Our partners at NextMedia, WHBC AM & FM, will broadcast the entire day on Friday to collect items. The record community is on board for our on-line charity auction. Interscope has donated a Maroon 5 guitar, Capitol has given us an autographed Katy Perry tour jacket, Roadrunner gave us a fun. guitar and WB has donated a Linkin Park guitar. In conjunction with WHBC-FM, we’re going to execute on-line auctions on both of our sights concurrently and the highest bidders of these items will write a check to The Red Cross."
If there are any other parties interested in donating auction items to this cause, please contact John Stewart either on his cell (330-242-1387) or at the station (330-450-9250).
John concluded, "We can do more than just putting a link to the Red Cross on our web site, that’s the least we should do. I wanted to do more than the least I can do and I wanted a personal connection knowing that locally I felt like we did our part as neighbors to New York. Joining with our competition is a productive move because they have different listeners than we do and know different people in the market than we do. By joining forces we’ll probably need more than one truck, and I have been promised a second truck as soon as we need it!"
