Mumford & Sons "Surprised" By Current Success
November 14, 2012

Mumford & Sons
After selling 600,000 copies in its first week, Mumford & Sons' Babel remains in the Top 10 on the album sales chart. The album sits at #7 this week with another 41,000 sold, bringing its total to almost 1.1 million copies in only six weeks. This makes Babel the year's best-selling Rock album, and in less than two months, it has already sold more copies than Justin Bieber's Believe and Nicki Minaj's Roman Reloaded.

"We spend our lives in a constant state of surprise at the moment, definitely. We weren't expecting people to [buy the album]," Marcus Mumford told MTV News. "Especially people who had heard the songs already. You could pretty much listen to the whole album on YouTube, just in a different order to the one we put down. Most of the songs were already online because we just liked playing them live."

He added that he doesn't think there is any major groundbreaking trend going on in music right now, but luckily for his band, people still love going to concerts, and playing live is what Mumford & Sons loves to do.

"I just think the main thing is that people buy tickets to shows; people love seeing live shows, and that's lucky for us, because that's what we love doing most," Mumford said. "More so than albums or radio shows or whatever, we love playing gigs, and that's what it's all about for us."

The band will spend the foreseeable future on the road, as their current tour schedule stretches all the way to April. They will be touring the U.K. for the rest of this year, and they recently announced a handful of east coast U.S. shows that are set for early 2013: Boston on February 5; Brooklyn's new Barclays Center on February 6 and 12; Fairfax, VA on February 13 and 14 and Camden, NJ on February 16 and 17. Mumford is set to be touring Europe in March and April.
