EMI Assets Sale To Begin This Week
November 19, 2012

Universal Music Group's sale of the assets of EMI is slated to begin this week, as pieces of the legendary record label go up for auction. Bloomberg reports that the Parlophone label makes up about half of the total package of EMI labels going up for sale. The labels UMG will sell off are valued at approximately $635 million.

A source tells Bloomberg that a data room detailing the EMI assets for sale, along with artist rosters and financial information, will be opened this week for any entities that have expressed interest in bidding. These include rival companies Warner Music Group, BMG Rights and Sony Music Entertainment. Other assets going up for sale include the Sanctuary and Mute labels.

Meanwhile, the UK's Sky News is reporting that private equity firm Claridge Inc. is planning on bidding on Parlophone. Claridge is headed up by American Idol creator Simon Fuller and Stephen Bronfman, the cousin of former Warner Music head Edgar Bronfman. Fuller is also a part of Blackwell Fuller, which is expected to place a bid as well. Last week, the Financial Times reported that at least nine groups are lined up to bid on Parlophone.

Earlier this year, UMG agreed to sell off almost two-thirds of EMI's recorded music division to win approval from European regulators.
