Alicia Keys' New Album Burns Up The Chart
December 5, 2012

Alicia Keys
The new album from Alicia Keys, Girl On Fire, takes a bow at #1 this week with 159,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This gives Keys her fifth #1 album, following her first three studio sets and one live release. Her last album, 2009's The Element of Freedom, launched at #2 with 417,000 copies sold, but its large opening week was bolstered by the fact that it was released a week before Christmas. Meanwhile, Keys will be riding the success of her new #1 album into the 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at New York's Madison Square Garden next week, where she'll perform alongside Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, Paul McCartney and more.

Girl On Fire is the only new album to debut in the Top 10 this week, as many holiday titles take over the top slots. Taylor Swift's Red is steady at #2 with 137,000 sold, and Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby is #3 with 117,000. One Direction's Take Me Home moves down one rung to #4 this week with another 92,000 sold, and Phillip Phillips' The World From the Side of the Moon moves from #4 to #5 with 74,000.

Last week's #1 album, Rihanna's Unapologetic, slides to #6 this week by moving 77,000 units, and Michael Buble's Christmas, which was released in 2011, shoots up to #7 again this year with 66,000 sold. Another holiday release,
Lady Antebellum's On This Winter's Night, also rises up to #8 with 59,000, as does Blake Shelton's Cheers, It's Christmas, which earns the #9 slot with 53,000. Rounding out the Top 10 is Kid Rock's Rebel Soul, which shifted another 46,000 copies this week.
