The HD Digital Radio Alliance has announced its third wave of HD side channels for radio station around the country. In total, 140 more HD channels will roll out in 18 markets. This brings the amount of HD channels to over 600 in 68 markets in the U.S.
“We’re even surprised by how fast this is moving,” said HD Digital Radio Alliance President/CEO Peter Ferrara. “It’s only been eight months since the Alliance was formed and we are seeing HD digital radio broadcasts being launched at a much faster pace than expected. We are excited to be helping listeners discover the newest digital entertainment option around – and of course there’s no subscription fee."
The new HD2 markets are:

CBS Radio has announced its HD2 channels for stations in four of the new markets: Austin, Buffalo, Rochester and West Palm Beach. In Austin, KKMJ's HD2 channel will be Oldies, KAMX will have an all-80's channel and KXBT's HD2 side channel will be Urban AC. In Buffalo, WYRK will have "young Country" on its HD2 channel, WBLK will feature Urban AC, WJYE's side channel will be a Smooth Jazz format and WBUF will have "My HD." In Rochester, WRMM will also have an Oldies HD2 channel, WCMF will feature the eclectic "Brother Wease Show," Modern AC will appear on WPXY's HD2 channel and the WZNE side channel will have Indie Rock. And in West Palm Beach, WBMX promises "Old School Hip-Hop" on its HD2 channel, WIRK will have a mix of Country and Southern Rock, WJBW will have a Gospel side channel and WPBZ will have a Triple A formatted HD2 channel.
Emmis has already announced its HD2 plans for Austin, TX, with a Smooth Jazz side channel for "Bob" KBPA, "Old School Hip-Hop" slated for KDHT's HD2 channel, Austin Blues on KLBJ's secondary channel, "Deep Deep Tracks" on the KGSR HD2 channel and hard Rock and Metal for Alternative KROX's side channel.
