Thea Mitchem Named VP Of Programming For Clear Channel-New York
December 14, 2012

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-New York has announced a pair of new appointments to its senior leadership team, naming Thea Mitchem as VP of Programming and Bernie Weiss as VPof Sales. Mitchem and Weiss will report to Joe Puglise, CCM+E-New York President/Market Manager, effective January 1, 2013.

As VP of Programming, Mitchem will oversee all programming for Clear Channel-New York’s five station cluster. She will manage the strategy and execution of the stations’ brands, increasing audience engagement for the market’s broadcast, digital and live entertainment operations. Mitchem will work closely with Puglise and Weiss to develop and maintain the stations’ brand identities while also driving revenue growth.

"I’m excited to join the Clear Channel Media and Entertainment team in New York City and look forward to working with the incredible programming teams and talented people that make up some of the most iconic brands in our business," said Mitchem. "Thank you to Joe Puglise, Clay Hunnicutt and Tom Schurr for extending this amazing opportunity."

Mitchem will join the New York market from Clear Channel-Washington, D.C./Baltimore, where she has served as President/Market Manager for the nine station cluster since May 2011. She began her career at Infinity Broadcasting’s WPGC-FM in the 1990’s and joined Clear Channel in 2003 as Director of Urban Programming for Philadelphia’s legendary Urban stations WDAS-FM, WUSL-FM and WDAS-AM. In 2005, Mitchem was promoted to Director of Operations for Clear Channel’s six station cluster in Philadelphia. In 2008 she transferred to Washington, D.C. as Director of Operations for the markets nine stations and took on a duel role programming WIHT (Hot 99.5).

Clear Channel-New York also announced the promotion of Bernie Weiss to VP of Sales, who will oversee and develop the Sales Management Team and lead the market’s new business and account service efforts. He will drive the market’s revenue growth through new business and account development, leveraging all of Clear Channel-New York’s assets and integrated capabilities. Weiss will develop deep, accretive business relationships with the market’s largest, current and potential clients including marketers and agencies.

"Over the past few years I have seen first-hand how the company has grown and evolved," said Weiss. "I am looking forward to building on Clear Channel-New York’s strength and working with one of the most talented sales teams in the country to convert more non-radio advertisers to our medium as well as our digital assets."

Weiss joined Clear Channel-New York in 2004 as an Account Executive for WWPR (Power 105.1). In 2005 he was named Local Sales Manager for WLTW (106.7 Lite FM) and in 2008 was promoted to GSM. In 2010 he was named GSM of WHTZ (Z100), WWPR (Power 105.1) and WAXQ (Q104.3). Prior to joining Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, Weiss held various sales positions within Cox Radio and Kronehit, the largest Austrian radio network.

"The opportunity to move not one but two industry executives who are at the top of their game into such key positions at one time exhibits the breadth of talent that exists within the company," said Puglise. "I could not be more excited for Bernie to be promoted from within the market and Thea to join the Clear Channel New York team."
