Last week, Cumulus Media officially closed its acquisition of WFME (94.7 FM) in New York City. The station has begun stunting a simulcast of now-sister station Hot AC WPLJ. Cumulus also started the rumor mill last week by acquiring the old WRXP call letters, used by Emmis and Merlin Media for their now-defunct Modern Rockers. 94.7 is currently using the 'RXP call letters, while still simulcasting 'PLJ. While rumors have suggested Cumulus could put Rock back on the NYC dial at 94.7, a Country station in the Big Apple has also been rumored for some time as the eventual new format on the frequency. At Active Rock WJRR/Orlando, the station welcomes Jesse Kage and the Kage Kult Show for weeknights. The busy Kage also handles afternoons on sister Active Rocker WXTB/Tampa.
Adam Ralston returns to Rock WAAF/Boston as Director of Marketing, after having previously worked at the station for a decade. Ralston will oversee marketing for all Entercom-Boston stations: WEEI-AM/FM, WRKO-AM as well as WAAF.
Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx and The Side Show Countdown with Nikki Sixx cross the pond this week and join the lineup on Kerrang! Radio in the UK. On Thursday, January 17, the station will launch "Sixx Sense Take Over," a one-hour, weekly show to air from 9-10 p.m. during Matt Stocks’ weekday program. Each Thursday, Stock will welcome Sixx and his co-host Kerri Kasem as they play the best rock music from around the world. Sixx will also highlight some of his favorite music of the week in a feature called "Sixx Picks." In addition to broadcasting on Kerrang! KNOM-AM/FM Nome, AK is the fourth station in history to receive the NAB Crystal Heritage Award, recognizing a radio station's long-term commitment to community service. The award will be presented during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon, held Tuesday, April 9 in Las Vegas and sponsored by ASCAP. The Crystal Heritage Award honors those stations that have won a total of five Crystal Radio Awards, which recognize radio stations' year-round community service efforts.
