UMG Partners With Alexandra Patsavas & Chop Shop Records
January 31, 2013

Universal Music Group’s East Coast Label Group and film & TV music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas have announced a partnership for Chop Shop Records to join UMG. The announcement was made today by Barry Weiss, Chairman/CEO of the East Coast Label Group which includes Island Def Jam, Republic Records and Motown, and Patsavas herself. Chop Shop had previously partnered with Atlantic Records.

Through this agreement, Patsavas will have the ability to work with Island Def Jam, Republic Records and Motown, depending on the needs of the particular artist or project. She will also work closely with Cynthia Sexton, EVP of Strategic Marketing for the label group.

"Alexandra is a perfect fit for our family of labels as we continue to expand our creative partnerships," stated Weiss. "She is not just an incredibly gifted music supervisor, but a storyteller, a tastemaker and a talent scout with a track record of success that speaks for itself."

"I’m a big fan of the UMG roster and have always admired the care they take in breaking acts," added Patsavas. "Their artist friendly approach and careful strategic promotion of new artists is extremely impressive and we look forward to partnering with the biggest label in the world."

John Rubeli will stay as President of Chop Shop Records overseeing daily operations of the label. Prior to Chop Shop Records, Rubeli was VP of A&R at Atlantic Records. Rubeli was also manager to artists including The Verve, The Boo Radleys and The Geraldine Fibbers, booked the second stage at Lollapalooza from 1992-1995 and began his career in the music industry as a college representative for Capitol Records while simultaneously booking acts like Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails and The Flaming Lips at his college.

As one of the industry’s most influential and in-demand music supervisors, Patsavas has played a significant role in identifying and exposing emerging artists to mainstream audiences, including Death Cab For Cutie, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Ingrid Michaelson and The Fray, among many others. She has created the sountracks to a number of hit TV series over the past decade, including Grey's Anatomy, The OC, Gossip Girl and Mad Men, among many others. She was also closely involved with the successful series of soundtracks for the Twilight movie series. Her Chop Shop Music Supervision company was founded in 1998 and Chop Shop Records was launched in 2007.
