Justin Timberlake called in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS/Los Angeles radio show yesterday, to discuss his upcoming, anticipated new album The 20/20 Experience. Timberlake said the album's title "more or less came out of I was playing some of the stuff for my friends and they would come in and out of the studio and I’d say, ‘What do you think of this?’ And my best friend said, ‘This is music that you can see,’ and for some reason that stuck with me."
Timberlake also revealed that a documentary about the recording of The 20/20 Experience was filmed, and it will be released around the same time as the album (which is due March 19). The countdown video that was used to announce the album uses footage from the film.
"Not to give too much away because you know I like surprising the fans, but that little piece of footage is from a documentary we started working on throughout the making of the album, which started last June," Timberlake told Seacrest. "So it was more a little excerpt from that, which I kinda thought about afterwards. Like, oh, people don't know about the documentary. This seems a little weird."
Much like his FutureSex/LoveSounds album, JT says the new record will also have many interconnected tracks and musical segments. "We touched on the last album with the interludes and the pieces that connect the song to another song we've really gone deep on that part of the process a lot of the songs are really two-in-one," Timberlake said. "For instance, when you're putting a song out like 'Suit & Tie,' it's kind of two different things happening at the same time. I know that there aren't many R&B dance records on the radio and I think we kind of felt, it seemed fresh to [Timbaland] and I and obviously Jay we just felt like yea let's put it out. I love the record."
