Mumford & Sons, Coldplay Honored At BRIT Awards

Mumford & Sons
The BRIT Awards were handed out in London on Wednesday night, and the red-hot Mumford & Sons were honored as Best British Group. Coldplay earned the award for British Live Act, and up-and-coming singer Emeli Sandé won two trophies for British Female Solo Artist and British Album of the Year for Our Version Of Events. Upon accepting her award, Sandé spoke of herself as "a very unlikely Pop star."

"This is an album I wrote because I didn't have the confidence to say these things in person," she told the crowd, according to a BBC recap. "For me, that so many people have connected with this album and found strength in these words makes me feel incredible and it doesn't make me feel as lonely."

The trophy for best British Single went to Adele's "Skyfall," and One Direction earned the Global Success Award while also taking the stage to perform their charity single, "One Way or Another."

Meanwhile, some American artists fared pretty well at the BRIT Awards too.
The Black Keys won Best International Group and Frank Ocean was named Best International Male Solo Artist. Justin Timberlake also was on hand to give the first-ever live performance of his new song, "Mirrors." JT started the performance solo, standing beneath a spotlight, as his backing band slowly worked their way into the song to fill out the tune with robust horns and guitar work. The night's other performers included Robbie Williams, Muse, and Taylor Swift, who sang "I Knew You Were Trouble."
